Robert McBeath (1897-1922) grew up in Kinlochbervie. In World War 1, he earned a Victoria Cross for his actions at the Battle of Cambrai. Following the war, Robert and his wife Barbara immigrated to Canada and joined the City of Vancouver Police Department. Tragically, he was killed in the line of duty in October 1922.
The school first became involved in the life of Robert McBeath when the S3 history class won a commendation in a Channel 4 competition with their Power Point presentation of his life. Since then the school has hosted two exhibitions on his life and have had 3 field trips to Vancouver where we have been guests of the Police Department. The pupils were also involved with the building of a memorial cairn and memorial wall in Kinlochbervie.
